With more than 44,000 commercial farmers, Florida is a major agricultural producer, ranking 9th among the U.S. states in value of annual farm markets. The state is second only to California in the production of fresh vegetables, and provides 80% of the vegetables consumed in the country from January through March each year. Florida also leads the nation in the production of oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines. In fact, “the sunshine state” produces 82% of the annual U.S. production of citrus. Florida is also recognized for its consistency of quality seafood, ranking in the top 12 states in fresh seafood production. Stone Crab is considered to be a Florida delicacy.
