About Homestyle Biscuits

What doesn’t go well with homemade biscuits? Great as “biscuits and gravy”, with jam, honey butter, or alongside a big bowl of hearty beef stew.

Homestyle Biscuits

 5 cups of flour
 9 tsp baking powder
 ½ cup of Crisco shortening
 1 tbs salt
 2 cups of milk
 ½ cup of lukewarm water
 1 package dry yeast

These biscuits can be mixed with an electric mixer.

Dissolve yeast in water. Put flour, baking powder, and salt in bowl. Stir to mix. Next, add the milk, yeast, water, and Crisco. Beat with a mixer until smooth. Put small amount of flour on your countertop or on a large cutting board. Turn the dough onto it and knead it a few times.

Now you can roll this out and cut into biscuits or you can place in a greased bowl with a tight cover and put in the refrigerator. This dough will keep for a few days. Makes it very handy to have in the fridge because while you’re preparing a meal all you have to do is go get the amount of dough that you want, roll it out, and cut into biscuits.

Place in lightly greased pan and bake at 475 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes approximately 35 biscuits.
