Community Fisheries
Farmers have long known that working together can help overcome the challenges that one faces in raising livestock or getting a crop to market. Neighbors pull together and help each other. That’s true for aquaculture as well as agriculture.

We’ll discover one group of Atlantic coast fisherman pulling together to reach consumers directly and get their catch to new markets – all while working to protect the future of fishing. The Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance was established to pull together diverse fishermen with a focus on the sustainability of the region’s marine system. Recognizing that the long term survival of the industry depends on the comprehensive involvement of small fishermen, wholesalers, distributors, and retail outlets, the Alliance has established steps to facilitate success at all levels.
