Hauling in the Harvest
Lois Van Mark had a difficult growing season with an unusual harvest. Very dry weather across the Midwest greatly reduced the yield on her late August wheat harvest. The same weather, however, “stressed” that wheat, delivering high protein content to the grain.

High protein wheat is in great demand by many producers who use the grain in everything from bread flour to nutrition bars. The result? Lois and her family were able to get a premium price for her crop.

Wheat - Fun Fact:
Let’s talk about some foods made from wheat. Chocolate chip cookies make the list as perhaps the most popular cookie in America. The average American will eat more than 20 pounds of pasta each year. Thomas Jefferson is credited with bringing the first pasta making machine from Europe in 1789.
