Sweet Sweet Strawberries
Strawberries continue to be one of our favorite fruits. Meeting the demand for fresh and succulent strawberries requires growers in California to find new ways to get more crops in the ground, and deliver strawberries year-round.

Darren Gee and his brothers have been growing strawberries near Santa Maria, California for more than a quarter-century. Some consider Santa Maria the strawberry center of the world, since they ship tens of thousands of pounds of strawberries around the globe. But keeping up with demand means they’re always searching for new varieties. That includes working with university researchers to build a better berry.

Some Strawberry Statistics
Did you know that strawberries are the only fruit with their seeds on the outside? Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C. Their bright red color is only fitting, since strawberries are a member of the rose family.
