Running any farm requires plenty of manpower and machinery. Those needs are especially critical at harvest, when lost time can damage farms and fortunes. But how many Heartland grain growers can afford to keep a fleet of quarter-million-dollar combines parked in the barn the rest of the year? In Edson, Kansas, we found a solution some have come up with. It involves some teenagers from overseas, a crusty but kind teacher, and one unusual "school".

Virginia has some famous farmers to its credit. Both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington had large farms in Virginia and remember that the father of our nation chopped down that cherry tree in the "Old Dominion" state. Early settlers found that tobacco provided a quick cash crop and Virginia claims the earliest peanut farms in the United States.
