Many of the heartland’s distinct farm communities were originally tied together by a common ethnic background or religion. Some have assimilated into mainstream America; others remain true to their historic roots.

 

 

Did you know:
The Amana colonies figure prominently in the development of two products we use almost every day. In 1934, the first refrigerated beverage cooler was produced by the Amana Refrigeration Company. And in 1967, Amana turned out the first countertop microwave ovens.
